CrimeReports.com was created to help law enforcement agencies put crime data in the hands of those who care about it most—citizens. It provides law enforcement across the country with an affordable service for managing the sharing of crime data with the public, in next to real-time. Residents can access their neighborhood crime information for free, allowing them to make informed decisions and helping to improve public safety.

Go to their website, enter your location and click “Get Report”.  A user-friendly map will appear onscreen.  Icons representing specific crimes will pop up on the map.  Click one of the icons to find out the type of crime committed, the date, location, distance from your location, and the identifier.  There are options to send a tip to the police department, send the information to a friend, or go back to the crime list.  CrimeReports sorts crime incidents into 15 general crime type categories. You can also receive time sensitive crime alerts, neighborhood and community policing bulletins and other crime awareness and prevention information when available.

History of the Rolling Mill District of Cumberland

Once known as the "Queen City" of Maryland, Cumberland was at one time the second largest city in the state.  The Rolling Mill neighborhood of Cumberland was at that time a flourishing industrial district.

In the late 1800's and early 1900's (the heyday of the Rolling Mill) families living in the district worked at the “Mill”, the Railroad, or other local shops and industries. Under the stress of the great depression, many residents of the Rolling Mill left the area.

Today, despite current national economic trends, the Rolling Mill District, as well as all of Cumberland, is seeing a renaissance because of the strong interest of so many in the community dedicated to preserving railroad, transportation, and architectural history, fostering the growing arts community, and providing affordable, quality living.  As a result, there are more amenities and opportunities for residents than ever before.
